State government liberally spending on welfare of minority students

Tripura government is implementing schemes for education and other welfare of the state’s minority community . This came to light in the course of a reply furnished by minister for minority welfare Sukla Charan Noatia to an ‘unstarred’ query-not meant for oral answer within the assembly-put by Congress MLA Sudip Roybarman and CPI (M) MLA Shailendra Nath.

Giving an account of the expenses incurred by the state government in providing welfare to the minority students, Sukla Charan said that in the financial year 2023-2024 altogether 7154 students had been given pre-matric scholarship, in 2024-2025 as many as 5184 students had received the same scholarship while in the financial year 2025-2026 only 531 students had received the pre-matric scholarship even though the actual figure was much higher as full data was not available at the time of compiling the data.

Under this scheme the state government had incurred an expense of Rs 16.67 lakhs for pre-matric scholarship and Rs 3,45,150.00 for post-matric scholarship. The minister also said in the reply that a proposal has been sent to the central government for increasing financial allocations on this head so that more student can be brought under the net of benefits . Apart from this, Sukla Charan said , in the last three financial years 122 persons belonging to minority community had been given loans for purchase of auto-rickshaw or for setting up business etc by the minority development corporation.The financial involvement in the sanction of loans was Rs 2 .73 crores.
