Law department’s initiative to upgrade skill of government panel lawyers, regular training and refresher courses

Altogether 162 lawyers represent the state government in various courts across the state as out of sanctioned posts of 168 government lawyers six are still vacant. Soon the government will prepare a panel of lawyers for appointment on the basis of criterion set by the rules of the BNSS. Tabling this information in the state assembly in response to an ‘unstarred’ question-meant for written reply only-the chief minister Dr Manik Saha who also holds the charge of law department outlined the steps taken by the government for upskilling of the lawyers belonging to the government panel.

The chief minister said that the law department has taken a number of steps to upgrade the skill of the government panel lawyers which include regular training being imparted by the Tripura Judicial Academy (TJA) and Tripura Law Training Institute (TLTI) on application of criminal law and prosecution in courts. Besides , refresher courses on a regular basis are being organized and attendance of government panel lawyers in such courses have been made mandatory.

Apart from this , for familiarization of government lawyers about new amendments to law regular refresher courses are being organized for public prosecutors, additional public prosecutors and assistant public prosecutors. In addition , lawyers manning the prosecution directorate are being sent to North Eastern Police Academy for toning up their skill in prosecution. Besides , a team of assistant public prosecutors were sent to the Delhi campus of National Forensic Science Laboratory (NFSL) for training on crypto currency , modern digital crimes and block chain proofs. A series of special training programmes for upskilling of government lawyers in handling NDPS cases have also been organized and these were attended by more than fifty public prosecutors, additional public prosecutors and assistant public prosecutors. All through the year refresher courses for government lawyers on various newly enacted laws are also being held, said the chief minister in his written reply.
