BJP Workers Accused of Harassment and Financial Extortion in Jogendranagar, Women’s Group Seeks Action

Serious allegations of harassment, mental torture, intimidation and financial extortion have surfaced against four BJP workers in the Adarsha Colony area of Jogendranagar, under West Tripura District triggering political controversy and demands for a high-level investigation.
According to allegations submitted by the affected woman, the four BJP workers allegedly subjected her to prolonged mental and physical harassment and pressured her to pay around Rs. 40,000, besides allegedly taking various household and personal belongings. The complaint claims that the harassment continued for a considerable period, causing severe physical and mental distress to the woman.
The allegations further state that, unable to tolerate the alleged harassment, the woman attempted to take her own life. She was subsequently rescued in a critical condition and admitted to GBP Hospital, where she received treatment.
The incident has reportedly generated considerable anger and concern among local residents. The complainant has now approached the police station with a written complaint seeking legal action against the accused.
The matter has also drawn the attention of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA). Leaders of the organisation have demanded that the administration conduct a prompt and impartial investigation and take strict legal action if the allegations are found to be true.
AIDWA leaders said violence, intimidation or exploitation of women cannot be tolerated irrespective of the political identity of the accused. They alleged that the incident raises broader questions about the protection available to ordinary and vulnerable women and the alleged use of political influence to shield individuals accused of wrongdoing.
The organisation further questioned why no decisive administrative or organisational action had reportedly been taken against the accused despite the seriousness of the allegations. It alleged that political influence should not become a means for accused persons to evade legal accountability.
At a protest meeting held on Thursday, the leadership of the AIDWA Jogendranagar–Dhaleswar unit strongly condemned the alleged incident. The organisation called upon the administration to ensure the woman’s safety, conduct a transparent investigation and provide her with appropriate justice.
