Two Bishalgarh Contractors Assaulted Outside Bishramganj RD Division Office, Vehicles Vandalised, TSR Jawan Injured

Tension gripped the Bishramganj Rural Development (RD) Division office premises in Sepahijala district on Monday after two contractors from Bishalgarh were allegedly assaulted by a group of miscreants, triggering violence and vandalism outside the government office. The incident took place in close proximity to the offices of district administration and police officials, raising serious questions over security and law-and-order arrangements at a sensitive administrative location.
The two injured contractors have been identified as Plaban Saha and Sagar Nag, both residents of Bishalgarh. According to reports, the duo had gone to the Bishramganj RD Division office during the afternoon when they were allegedly attacked. Their vehicles were also vandalised during the confrontation. A Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan, identified as Purnajoy Reang, was reportedly injured while attempting to intervene and bring the situation under control.
The Bishramganj RD Division is an important government engineering and development office handling works across parts of Sepahijala district. Government tender records confirm that the office of the Executive Engineer, RD Bishramganj Division, is the designated venue for tender-related activities and oversees a substantial volume of development and civil works in the area.
The latest incident has now triggered allegations that an organised group of individuals regularly gathers outside the RD office and allegedly attempts to exert influence over contractors. Local allegations claim that some of those involved have political affiliations and that contractors have, on earlier occasions, faced intimidation and pressure.
Questions are also being raised about how such a confrontation could escalate outside a government office located near key district administrative establishments. Witness accounts cited in local reports indicate that the two contractors were attacked and that their vehicles were damaged before police and senior security personnel moved to control the situation. The presence of police personnel at the site during the incident has also become a subject of discussion, with questions being raised over whether the initial response was adequate.
Following the violence, the Additional Superintendent of Police and other police officials reportedly reached the spot, while a large contingent of TSR personnel was deployed around the RD office to prevent further escalation. The injured TSR jawan was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment.
The incident has also acquired a political dimension, with competing claims emerging over its possible background. Some political sources have alleged that the violence was connected with an attempt by Tipra Motha-linked elements to assert influence in the area, while other accounts have described it as an internal power struggle within the broader ruling alliance. At this stage, however, these remain allegations and competing political interpretations rather than established facts.
The controversy is particularly significant because contractors working under the RD system are involved in a wide range of public infrastructure projects. Recent government procurement records show that the Bishramganj Division is currently handling multiple works and procurement activities covering Bishalgarh, Charilam and Jampuijala areas.
The attack on the two contractors has therefore raised broader concerns about whether government offices are being adequately protected from outside interference and whether contractors can carry out their official and contractual responsibilities without intimidation. It has also prompted demands for a transparent investigation into the immediate cause of the clash, identification of all persons involved, the circumstances surrounding the vandalism of the vehicles and the role played by those present at the scene.
