The State Election Commission is set to convene an all-party meeting ahead of the Village Committee elections, scheduled to be held in a single phase on September 27 following a Supreme Court ruling.

As part of preparations, the Commission on Monday conducted a workshop for Block Development Officers (BDOs) and Additional BDOs who will serve as Returning Officers for the elections.

State Election Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Chakravarty said 52 BDOs and Additional BDOs attended the workshop, where they were briefed on election rules, the Model Code of Conduct, counting procedures and other aspects of the polling process.

“Preparatory exercises are underway to ensure that the elections are conducted effectively,” Chakravarty said.

He said the all-party meeting would be held within the next few days to discuss matters related to the elections.

The Commission is also coordinating with Tripura Police on security arrangements. Officials said meetings would be held to assess the law-and-order situation and identify sensitive and hyper-sensitive areas.

Based on the assessment and inputs from stakeholders, a multi-layered security plan will be prepared for the elections, the officials said.
