HP Ghosh Memorial Medical College Foundation Stone Laid in Dhalai, Marking Major Boost to Tripura’s Healthcare Sector

In a significant step towards strengthening healthcare infrastructure and medical education in Tripura, the foundation stone of the proposed HP Ghosh Memorial Medical College was ceremonially laid at Lalchhari in Ambassa, Dhalai district, on Monday.
The medical college is being established through an initiative of the Bandhan Group, in collaboration with the HP Ghosh Memorial Foundation. The proposed institution is expected to come up over approximately 20 acres of land and is planned with modern facilities aimed at strengthening medical education, creating skilled healthcare professionals and expanding access to quality healthcare services in Dhalai as well as other parts of Tripura and the wider Northeast.
Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, who attended the foundation-stone ceremony as the Inaugurator and Chief Guest, extended his greetings and best wishes to all those associated with the initiative. The project is being viewed as an important addition to the state’s healthcare infrastructure and is expected to create new opportunities for medical education and healthcare services in the region.
According to the organisation for the ceremony, Shri Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Chairman of Bandhan Group, was present in connection with the foundation-stone laying ceremony.
The distinguished guests associated with the ceremony included Smt. Susmita Das, Zilla Sabhadhipati, Dhalai, Smt. Swapna Das Paul, MLA of 46-Surma, Shri Chitta Ranjan Debbarma, MLA of 47-Ambassa and Smt. Pratima Malakar, Chairperson of Ambassa Municipal Council.
The special guests listed for the ceremony included Shri Kiran Gitte, IAS, Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Government of Tripura; Shri Vivek HB, IAS, District Magistrate & Collector, Dhalai, Dr. Debasri Debbarma, Director of Health Services, Prof. (Dr.) Abhijit Datta, Director of Medical Education was present.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also chaired a review meeting on Monday to assess the progress of various development activities and government projects in Dhalai district. The meeting reviewed the current status of different development projects and discussed measures for their speedy and effective implementation so that the benefits of government schemes and public services reach people efficiently.
Chief Minister Saha stressed the need for stronger coordination among the concerned departments and called for greater momentum in the implementation of development works across the district. The review meeting also focused on resolving implementation-related issues and ensuring that ongoing government initiatives deliver tangible benefits to the people.
During his visit to Dhalai, the Chief Minister also inaugurated ‘Dhalai Café’, operated by the ‘Swapner Shiri’ CLF, at the premises of the Dhalai District Magistrate’s Office.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Chief Minister described the initiative of women associated with self-help groups as a bright example of self-reliance and empowerment. He said employment-oriented initiatives of this nature can play an important role in taking forward the hard work, skills and entrepreneurial spirit of women involved in self-help groups.
Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha extended his sincere greetings and congratulations to the women of the concerned self-help groups and wished Dhalai Café every success.
The simultaneous focus on healthcare infrastructure, district development and women-led livelihood initiatives reflects the government’s broader efforts to accelerate development in Dhalai and strengthen essential public services and economic opportunities at the grassroots level.
