Indiscipline in state police, second officer tries to assault OC in Bodhjung Nagar police station, closed to headquarter

Amidst the fast deteriorating social order and peace a section of police personnel in Tripura also seem to have been infected by the virus of indiscipline and propensity for unruly behavior . The fact that there is a power vacuum at the highest level of state police following the death of the ex-DGP Anurag Dhankhar and non-appointment of anyone else to the post so far has created a problem. But now the gap in the hierarchy seems to have percolated to the police station level also,as reported by a local media outlet.

According to reports a serious situation has developed in the Bodhjung Nagar police station because of the gross indiscipline and unruly activities of the second officer of the police station , inspector Parikshit Debbarma. Sources said that Parikshit Debbarma all along his career has been an ill-tempered and undisciplined officer who defies order of seniors in the matter of duties besides misbehaving with all including his direct boss. He has also been in the habit of moving out of the police station at any time without informing the officer in charge who is his direct boss and ,what is worse, he always tries to create an ethnic division among officers wherever he is posted.

Sources said that the officer in charge of Bodhjung Nagar police station Prasanta De had apprised his seniors of the gross indiscipline of Parikshit Debbarma but no action was taken. Emboldened by lack of action Parikshit Debbarma reached the police station inordinately late from his Abhay Nagar home at his own sweet will last Saturday despite having been entrusted with important official works. But when the OC Prasanta De asked him about this , he went ballistic without any provocation and abused him verbally with choicest invectives . The heated exchange between the OC and the second officer put the entire police station on alert as everyone else feared the worst but the OC Prasanta De controlled himself and reported the matter to his higher authority.

After coming to know about everything the SP (west) Namit Pathak intervened and closed unruly Parikshit Debbarma from his charge in the Bodhjung Nagar police station and posted him in the police headquarter at Agartala . But the shameful episode , particularly the gross violation of discipline by Parikshit Debbarma and his misbehavior with the OC, has left a bitter taste in the Bodhjung Nagar police station . The people under the police station have expressed grave disappointment over the issue and asked if the police force become indisciplined themselves how they will maintain law and order and protect ordinary citizens.
