Massive scam , Jirania agricultural superintendent suspended from service

As part of action programme against corrupt officials of the department engaged in embezzling public funds, the director of agriculture Dr Phani Bhusan Jamatya on August 18 put under suspension the assistant director and superintendent of the agriculture department in Jirania , Somen Kumar Das . He has also been directed not to leave station with prior approval of the higher authority. A departmental investigation will continue against the suspended officer.

Sources in agriculture department said that there were allegations of Somen Kumar Das’s rampant embezzlement of government fund from sale and distribution of seeds, fertiliser , pesticide and agricultural implements among farmers . Apart from this , Somen Kumar Das was also accused of having illegally withdrawn funds of the department in Jirania and also of having stashed them away to other banks and deposits. Besides, he was also accused of not having deposited government fund with exclusive government accounts in the banks.

Since Somen Kumar Das’s illegal and corrupt activities had raised suspicions the departmental authority had a preliminary inquiry conducted against him and found most of the allegations to be true. Finally a report had been submitted to the director of the department and Dr Phani Bhusan Jamatya, the director , issued the suspension order on August 18. In the letter of suspension the director categorically mentioned that in the preliminary inquiry all the allegations against Somen Kumar Das had been found to be true .
