Tripura government departments have been asked to respond promptly to misinformation on social media and exercise greater care while publishing content through their official platforms.
The direction was issued by Information and Cultural Affairs Department Secretary Kiran Gitte during a workshop on social media management held at the Smart Training Centre of IT Bhavan on Friday.
Gitte said social media had emerged as a major source of information, with news frequently reaching the public through online platforms before appearing in print or electronic media. He said the government was working to ensure that departmental social media accounts remained active and informative.
He cautioned officials against the circulation of misleading or inaccurate information, saying such reports could create misconceptions about government activities. Departments, he said, should issue timely responses and ensure that their communications remained consistent with government initiatives.
Gitte also stressed the need for proper oversight of posts, including deciding who would draft and upload content. He urged officials to use suitable hashtags and tags to increase the reach of official communications.
He said similar training programmes would be conducted in all districts to strengthen social media management.
Information and Cultural Affairs Director Bimbisar Bhattacharjee and IT Department Director Jeya Regal Geshan B. also addressed the workshop. Nodal officers from various departments attended the programme.
