The departments of forest and printing and technology headed by Animesh Debbarma observed the 118th birth anniversary of Tripura’s last king of the Manikya dynasty Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya with due solemnity and respect . The minister as well as officials of both the departments paid their tributes to a garlanded portrait of Maharaja Bir Bikram.

However the programme organized on the occasion by the forest department was more attractive as all the officials and employees including the minister garlanded a portrait of the late Maharaja and paid their respects. Addressing the programme in the forest office the departmental minister Animesh Debbarma referred to the historic role played by king Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya in the progress and development of Tripura. “In the matter of development of Tripura’s agriculture , education and health and public welfare Maharaja Bir Bikram had played a vital role ; he had also promoted Tripura’s culture to the rest of the country liberally helping men of letters and culture” said Animesh.

The most important part of the programme was planting of tree saplings in which the minister Animesh Debbarma and senior officials of the department took part enthusiastically. They said that planting trees is and should be an important component of such celebrations to keep alive the memory of great men such as Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya . This makes people conscious of the need for reviving and renewing our contact with nature at a time when the entire world is threatened by global warming and other looming disasters.
