The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth front of the opposition CPI (M), today held a protest rally in Sonamura town against the subversion of the independence day programmes of the party in both Sonamura and Dukli area of Agartala. It was on August 15 that gangs of BJP workers had stopped CPI (M) and DYFI workers from observing the independence day programme in Nalchhar and Kalam Chaura area of Sonamura subdivision. Besides the DYFI state secretary Nabarun Deb had organized a blood donation camp in his residence at Dukli area of Agartala on the independence day but that programme had also been subverted by the local BJP miscreants who had driven the attendees in the programme away.
It was against these subversive activities and attacks on CPI (M) and BJP workers that the DYFI unit Sonamura organized a protest rally that marched from the front side of the CPI (M) office in the town and converged on the Rabindra Chaumuhuni. A meeting was held there and the leaders delivered speeches . Speaking to media persons Indrajit Saha, the DYFI secretary in Sonamura subdivision, condemned the anti-democratic activities and goonery of the BJP workers and supporters and said that the ‘BJP is destroying the democratic ambience of the state’.
“What is most objectionable is that the BJP goons prevented us from hoisting the national flag and that too on the 80th independence day ; the CM is talking tall about the rule of law in the state ; is this rule of law” Indrajit asked. He also asserted that people have lost all hopes from the BJP government and it is now only a matter of time before they are thrown out of power by the people.
