Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, in his Independence Day address on August 15, highlighted a series of national-level achievements that, according to the state government, have placed Tripura among the best-performing states in the country in several key governance and development programmes.

Addressing the 80th Independence Day celebration at the Assam Rifles Ground in Agartala, the Chief Minister said Tripura has achieved remarkable recognition at the national level through the successful implementation of various Central and state government programmes. He particularly pointed to the state’s performance in tribal welfare, Panchayati Raj, administrative capacity building, literacy and regulatory reforms as evidence that Tripura is increasingly matching national standards.

One of the most significant achievements highlighted by the Chief Minister was Tripura’s performance in the PM-JANMAN and Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan. Saha said Tripura has been recognised as the best-performing state in the country for the implementation of these programmes. The recognition, he said, reflects the state’s efforts to ensure that the benefits of government schemes reach tribal communities and Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups at the grassroots level.

The achievement was further strengthened by recognition at the district level. North Tripura district was selected as the best-performing district in the country for implementation of PM-JANMAN, according to the Chief Minister. The recognition is significant as PM-JANMAN focuses on improving housing, drinking water, electricity, road and mobile connectivity, healthcare, education and livelihood opportunities for Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups.

Tripura has also secured national recognition in Panchayati Raj and grassroots governance. Sepahijala Zilla Parishad was selected as the country’s best district panchayat for the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar. At the gram panchayat level, Kanchanbari Gram Panchayat of Unakoti district was selected as the best Healthy Panchayat in India under the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar.

Another major national achievement came under Mission Karmayogi. During the ‘Sadhana Week 2026’, Tripura secured first position among states having fewer than one lakh government employees, according to the Chief Minister. The recognition highlights the state’s performance in capacity building and training of government employees as part of the Centre’s administrative reform programme.

Tripura’s literacy achievement has also given the state a prominent position on the national map. With a literacy rate of more than 95 per cent, the state has been recognised as the third fully literate state in India. The Chief Minister described the achievement as an important milestone in the state’s long-term efforts to improve education and literacy.

The state has also performed strongly in regulatory reforms. Saha said Tripura has secured the first position in the country for two consecutive years in the Compliance Reduction and Deregulation Exercise. According to him, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also congratulated Tripura for this achievement.

The Chief Minister said these national recognitions demonstrate that Tripura’s governance performance is no longer being assessed only in the context of the North-East. Instead, the state is increasingly being measured against national benchmarks, with several departments, districts and local bodies achieving positions among the best in India.

Saha also linked these governance achievements with the state’s broader development agenda, including improvements in the investment climate, ease of doing business, digital governance, rural development, healthcare, education and infrastructure.

The Chief Minister said Tripura has received more than 360 national and regional awards over the past eight years, describing the recognitions as an acknowledgement of the state government’s efforts towards transparent, efficient and development-oriented administration.

The message emerging from the Independence Day address was that Tripura is steadily moving towards national-level excellence in governance, with the state government citing its best-performing status in PM-JANMAN implementation, national recognition for its Panchayati Raj institutions, first position in Mission Karmayogi among its category of states, third fully literate state status and repeated No. 1 ranking in compliance reduction as evidence of this transformation.

Chief Minister Saha said these achievements would provide a stronger foundation for the government’s larger vision of building an “Ek Tripura, Shreshtha Tripura” and achieving “Developed Tripura, Developed India” by 2047.
