Tripura is set to take another significant step towards strengthening its startup and technology ecosystem with a one-day workshop on 'Building a Unicorn in Tripura', scheduled to be held on August 17 at 10:30 AM at Hall No. 1, Pragya Bhavan, Agartala.

The workshop, being organised by the Directorate of Information Technology, Government of Tripura, in collaboration with T-Hub, will also mark the launch of the T-RISE (Tripura Registry and Integration for Startup Ecosystem) initiative. The programme will be inaugurated by Pranajit Singha Roy, Minister for IT, Finance, Planning & Coordination, in the presence of Kiran Gitte, IAS, Secretary to the Chief Minister and Secretary in charge of GA–Good Governance, Dr. PK Goyal, IAS, Secretary, Finance & IT, and Tejaswi Bhagavatula, VP, Skyroot Aerospace.

The workshop comes against the backdrop of the State Government’s growing emphasis on entrepreneurship, innovation, technology-driven businesses and the creation of a successful startup ecosystem capable of producing a unicorn from Tripura.

Speaking about the broader objective of strengthening Tripura’s technology ecosystem, Director of Information Technology Jeya Ragul Geshan B, IFS, said the Government’s vision of building a strong startup ecosystem is being welcomed by local entrepreneurs.

“At the same time, local entrepreneurs appreciate the Government’s vision and initiatives to strengthen Tripura’s startup ecosystem and believe that the proposed strategy can become even more impactful by extending support across every stage of an enterprise’s journey, including existing IT companies that have already established their businesses in the State,” the Director said.

According to the Director, a number of established IT companies in Tripura are already working to overcome business and operational challenges. Their experience, skilled manpower, infrastructure, knowledge and existing business networks, he noted, represent valuable assets that can contribute significantly to the State’s digital and economic growth.

The local entrepreneurial community believes that supporting these existing enterprises alongside encouraging new startups could make the State’s technology ecosystem more sustainable and inclusive.

Entrepreneurs argue that startup development should not be limited only to the creation of new companies. Businesses that have already survived the initial stages and established operations in Tripura also require institutional support to scale up, create employment and compete in larger markets.

The Director of IT pointed out that such support would not be an alternative to the Government’s startup initiatives. Rather, strengthening existing IT companies could complement the Government’s long-term vision of creating successful startups and eventually nurturing a unicorn from Tripura.

“Rather than being seen as an alternative to the Government’s startup initiatives, supporting existing IT companies can complement the vision by creating a stronger, more sustainable and inclusive ecosystem for both emerging and established enterprises,” he said.
