Director General of Police of Tripura Amitabh Ranjan on Friday downplayed the threat of insurgency revival and asserted that as of now “Tripura is insurgency free”. Replying to a question regarding the threats of insurgency, he said, “All the insurgent groups had surrendered already. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, all the remaining insurgent groups had laid down their arms. So there is no major threat of insurgency revival right now.” On being asked about Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha’s recent remarks on political conspiracies to reignite militancy in Tripura, he said, “Such kind of attempts are likely to be made and as police force we need to be careful and alert. We are alert and keeping a close watch on the situation.” On being asked about the alleged ‘below average’ performance of the women police stations, he said, “We are the 8th state with lowest crime against women. No one can achieve the feat without working effectively in the field. But, if there are any specific allegations against any police station, people are free to lodge their complaint with the superior authorities and confidentiality will be maintained.”
