Tripura Marks 80th Independence Day with Statewide Patriotic Celebrations

Tripura joined the nation in celebrating the 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour and due solemnity on Saturday, with the main state-level programme held at the Assam Rifles Ground in the capital, Agartala, in the presence of Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha.

The day was marked by a series of official, political and social programmes across Agartala, with national flag hoisting ceremonies, tributes to freedom fighters and martyrs, patriotic observances and a blood donation camp.

At the main state-level celebration at the Assam Rifles Ground, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha participated in the Independence Day programme and paid tribute to the sacrifices made during India's freedom struggle. The event reflected the spirit of national unity and patriotism associated with Independence Day.

The CPI(M) state headquarters also observed the 80th Independence Day with due dignity. CPI(M) State Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury hoisted the national flag in the presence of party leaders, workers and supporters. Those present subsequently took a pledge on the occasion, reaffirming their commitment to the values and ideals associated with India's independence.

At the BJP Tripura Pradesh office, the 80th Independence Day was celebrated with equal enthusiasm. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, BJP state president Abhishek Deb Roy and other senior party leaders and workers attended the programme. The national flag was hoisted as party members observed the occasion with patriotic spirit.

The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee also organised an Independence Day programme at its premises. State Congress president Ashish Kumar Saha, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, MLA Gopal Chandra Roy and other party leaders and workers were present. The programme featured the ceremonial hoisting of the national flag and observance of the significance of Independence Day.

A solemn tribute was also paid at the Gandhi statue near Circuit House in Agartala. Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu and Minister Ratan Lal Nath offered floral tributes at the statue. Later, floral tributes were also paid at Gandhi Ghat and the Martyrs' Memorial, honouring Mahatma Gandhi and those who sacrificed their lives for the country.

The Tripura Civil Secretariat (Mahal) also observed the 80th Independence Day through a national flag-hoisting ceremony. Minister Ratan Lal Nath and senior government officials were present at the programme.

Meanwhile, the spirit of Independence Day was also linked with social service in Ramnagar, where a joint initiative of the student and youth wings of the Ramnagar area committee organised a blood donation camp at the Mela Ground Student-Youth Bhavan. The programme was organised to commemorate both the 80th Independence Day and the birth centenary of poet Sukanta Bhattacharya.

Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury and other leaders and participants attended the blood donation programme.

From the state-level official ceremony to programmes organised by political parties and social organisations, Independence Day celebrations across Tripura reflected a combination of patriotism, remembrance and civic engagement, with tributes being paid to the country's freedom fighters and martyrs and emphasis placed on the responsibilities of citizens in preserving the values of India's independence.
