CPI(M) Alleges BJP Workers Disrupted Blood Donation Camp at DYFI State Secretary Nabarun Deb’s Residence on the occasion of Independence Day

The CPI(M) has strongly condemned what it described as an alleged attempt by BJP workers and supporters to disrupt a blood donation camp being organised at the residence of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) Tripura State Secretary Nabarun Deb, alleging that the incident reflected a blatant display of power by ruling-party workers ahead of Independence Day.

According to the CPI(M), preparations were underway at Deb’s residence for the blood donation camp when local individuals allegedly intervened and prevented decorators from completing the temporary pandal and other arrangements. The party termed those who allegedly obstructed the programme barbaric and accused them of attempting to derail a humanitarian initiative.

Nabarun Deb, according to the allegations, had informed the Inspector General of Police (Law & Order), the Superintendent of Police of West Tripura district and the concerned local police station about the situation and had sought adequate security for the proposed blood donation camp.

Deb reportedly alleged that a local resident from the Icha Bazar area, identified as Sukanta Pal, had been threatening since the previous day to prevent the blood donation programme from taking place. He further alleged that when preparations continued at his residence on Friday, the decorators engaged to construct the temporary structure were prevented from carrying out their work.

The DYFI leader also claimed that he again approached the local police station and provided details of the alleged obstruction while requesting security for the blood donation programme. However, according to his allegation, no effective police intervention followed.

The situation allegedly escalated when the decorators, facing what Deb described as threats from people associated with the local BJP mandal, dismantled and removed the partially constructed pandal. The CPI(M) has alleged that the incident effectively disrupted preparations for the blood donation camp.

Deb reportedly claimed that such incidents were not isolated and alleged that political programmes organised by the DYFI and CPI(M) in the locality had repeatedly faced obstruction. He further alleged that the police had been informed about such incidents on several occasions but had failed to take effective action.

The CPI(M) has criticised the alleged police inaction and questioned whether citizens and political organisations are able to exercise their democratic rights freely in the locality. The party described the incident as an example of what it called the absence of the rule of law and urged the police administration to investigate the allegations and ensure security for political and social programmes.
