Tripura Ranks First Among States and UTs in Technology Driven Policing NATGRID Utilisation, Yet Questions Remain Over DGP’s Unnatural Death

Tripura Police has achieved a significant national distinction by securing the first position among all States and Union Territories in India in the utilisation of the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID), according to an announcement by the Tripura Police.
The achievement has been described as a major milestone in the state's adoption of technology-driven policing, with the effective use of NATGRID strengthening the police's ability to detect crimes, identify suspects and trace the whereabouts of criminals.
Tripura Police stated that the effective utilisation of NATGRID has enabled investigators to obtain critical information more quickly, thereby strengthening intelligence-based policing and helping police services reach the public in a faster and more effective manner.
The achievement has also highlighted the contribution of South Tripura District Police. Tripura DGP GS Rao, IPS, reportedly recognised the significant contribution of South Tripura Police and appreciated its efforts towards achieving the top position.
The recognition on behalf of South Tripura Police was received by SP South Mourya Krishna C, IPS.
According to Tripura Police, the coordinated efforts of personnel attached to the SP Office, including the Additional SP, SDPOs and the Cyber Cell team, played an important role in the achievement. The department expressed gratitude to all police personnel whose dedicated and coordinated efforts contributed to the state's performance.
The police administration described the achievement as a proud milestone for Tripura Police and said it reflects the force's commitment to modern, technology-driven policing and improved public service delivery.
NATGRID is intended to facilitate authorised security and law-enforcement agencies in accessing and analysing information from multiple databases. Its effective utilisation can assist investigators in identifying links between individuals, activities and criminal networks and can provide critical information during investigations.
The latest recognition therefore underlines the increasing emphasis being placed by Tripura Police on digital intelligence, cyber capabilities, data analysis and technology-assisted investigation.
However, the announcement has simultaneously triggered questions among sections of the public and former police officers regarding the investigation into the unnatural death of a serving DGP of Tripura.
The incident occurred July 20, but the circumstances and exact reasons behind the death have still not been conclusively explained to the public. The continuing uncertainty has naturally generated questions about the progress of the investigation and the extent to which the state's police and intelligence machinery has been able to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
The issue becomes particularly significant in view of the latest claim that Tripura has ranked first among all States and Union Territories in the country in NATGRID utilisation.
