Tripura CM felicitates CWG Judo gold medallist Asmita De , hands over cheque of Rs 10 lakhs and papers allotting 2.5 ‘gandas’ of land

As decided earlier the state government today felicitated just-concluded Common Wealth Games (CWG) gold medalist Tripura girl Asmita De in the Rabindra Shata Varshiki Bhawan in a packed programme. While the chief minister Dr Manik Saha was the chief guest in the programme , the dais of the programme was also adorned by minister for sports Tinku Roy, Mayor of AMC Dipak Majumder and Olympian gymnast and ‘Padmasri’ Deepa Karmakar . Asmira herself and her mother Munna Patari De were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion the chief minister Dr Manik Saha said that shortly after Asmita , originally a girl from Belonia subdivision now settled in UP, had achieved her feat of gold medal he had spoken to her to extend his congratulations. “I had asked her what she wanted from his home state and she replied that she would like to have a home of her own and I had assured her that she would have her own home at Agartala” said the chief minister. It was then that ,as decided by a meeting of the state cabinet, the chief minister handed over a cheque of Rs 10 lakhs to Asmita and all official papers of allotment including mutation certificate for a plot of 2.5 ‘Gandas’ of land in Ujan Abhay Nagar. The land is actually priced at Rs 33.50 lakhs as per government rates but the cabinet meeting waived the monetary value and was given as a gift to Asmita.

The chief minister yet again congratulated Asmita and wished her all the best . He also asked her to make a contribution to her home state in future . For her part Asmita expressed her thanks and gratitude to the chief minister and the state government and said that in future she will try to contribute to the state. She also recalled the affection and struggle of her late father Arjun Kumar De. The other VVIPs present on the occasion also delivered short speeches congratulating Asmita and thanking the state government for the gesture of felicitating Asmita who has already been given a promotion to the post of DSP from Sub-inspector in UP police where she had got a job earlier . Asmita also thanked the UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath for helping her progress in sports and jobs.
