TIPRA Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma Takes Swipe at ‘Opportunists’ Ahead of Delhi Talks With BJP Leadership

Amid crucial political discussions involving the TIPRA Motha and the BJP leadership in New Delhi, TIPRA Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma has made a pointed social media remark today late evening urging the Tiprasa community to identify those who genuinely stand with them and those whom he describes as “opportunists.”

In a Facebook post, Debbarma wrote in Kokborok:

“Chini Society kisa Opportunist borok tongo, je borok seb naiwi kok sanai. Tiprasa lukurog omotwi borokno sininani nangnai.”

The statement broadly conveys the message that there are opportunistic people in society who do not genuinely stand with the people, and that the Tiprasa community needs to identify and recognise such individuals.

The MLA did not name any individual, political party or organisation in his post. However, the timing of the statement has attracted political attention as TIPRA Motha leaders are currently in New Delhi for important discussions with the BJP's central leadership.

Ranjit Debbarma is presently in New Delhi along with TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma and Minister Brishaketu Debbarma. The leaders are expected to participate in discussions with the BJP central leadership and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, with Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha also expected to be present.

The proposed meeting assumes significance against the backdrop of ongoing political discussions between the BJP and TIPRA Motha over issues concerning Tripura's indigenous population, political representation and commitments made to the Tiprasa community.

Debbarma's social media message, therefore, has generated interest within political circles, particularly because it comes at a time when senior TIPRA Motha leaders are engaged in discussions at the national level.

While the MLA's post does not explicitly link his remarks to the ongoing Delhi meetings, his reference to “opportunists” and his appeal to the Tiprasa people to recognise those who genuinely stand with them could be interpreted as a broader political message.

The New Delhi discussions are being closely watched in Tripura, particularly among supporters of TIPRA Motha, as any understanding between the BJP and the regional party could have significant implications for the state's political landscape and the future course of negotiations concerning Tiprasa interests.
