The mysterious disappearance of a businessman youth on way back home in Kumarghat and the inability of the police to trace him out over the past week has sparked tension and anxiety among people in Kumarghat under Unakoti district . Sources from Kumarghat said that on July 31 Malay Deb (39) alias Mantu had closed his shop in the Kumarghat market and started on his way back home on his Scooty around 9-00 PM. He was accompanied by his friend Sanu Deb, a resident of Halaimura area, and both the friends decided to go to Dharma Nagar even though Malay had money and keys of his shop in his pocket.
Around 11-00 in the night Malay’s father Makhan Lal Deb , a retired employee of the PWD, called his son on mobile and found that he was in Dharma Nagar railway station. But Malay did not return home that night though his friend Sanu with whom he had close relation for a long time, reached their home on July 31 itself and returned the key of the shop along with his mobile set and the Scooty. Sanu has a car of his own and he himself drives it but he could not say anything about Malay’s whereabouts after they had reached the Dharma Nagar railway station.
After waiting two days for the return of his son Malay’s father Makhan Lal Deb filed a missing diary with the Kumarghat police station on August 3 but there is as yet no information about Malay. The officer in charge of Kumarghat police station Sanjay Das said that there is as yet no clue to Malay’s whereabouts because he returned him mobile through his friend but search is on . Sanjay Das said that railway authority and police as well as police authority in Assam have been alerted on the issue but anxiety and tension among Malay’s family members including his wife and children and the common people have been growing over Malay Deb’s mysterious disappearance.
