CEO Brijesh Pandey Announces Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls in Tripura, Exercise to Begin from September 5

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Tripura, Shri Brijesh Pandey, IAS, on Friday outlined the roadmap for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Electoral Rolls, 2026 during a press conference held at the Civil Secretariat. He said the comprehensive revision exercise has been initiated under the directions of the Election Commission of India (ECI) to ensure that the electoral rolls remain accurate, inclusive, updated and free from duplicate, shifted, deceased or otherwise ineligible entries.
Addressing the media, the CEO stated that the Special Intensive Revision has been notified for 19 States and Union Territories, including Tripura. The qualifying date for the revision in Tripura has been fixed as October 1, 2026. The exercise will commence on September 5 and conclude with the publication of the final electoral roll on December 23, 2026.
Pandey informed that Tripura presently has 60 Assembly Constituencies, 3,356 polling stations, and nearly 28.97 lakh electors, comprising approximately 14.52 lakh male and 14.45 lakh female voters.
He said that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door visits from September 15 to October 14, during which they will distribute pre-filled Enumeration Forms to existing electors. BLOs will assist voters in verifying and completing the forms and will make three visits to every household to ensure maximum coverage. Electors will also have the option to submit their Enumeration Forms online through the official portal or the ECINET application.
Clarifying concerns regarding documentation, the CEO said no documents will be collected during the house-to-house enumeration phase. If any further verification becomes necessary, the concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) will issue notices after the publication of the draft electoral roll, providing electors adequate opportunity to submit the required supporting documents. He also clarified that while Aadhaar may be accepted as proof of identity, it will not be treated as proof of citizenship.
The Draft Electoral Roll will be published on October 21, 2026, after which claims and objections can be filed until November 20, 2026. These will be scrutinized before the final electoral roll is published on December 23, 2026. Copies of the draft roll will also be provided to recognized political parties.
Pandey further informed that voters aggrieved by any decision of the Electoral Registration Officer can file a first appeal before the District Magistrate and Collector (District Election Officer), while a second appeal can be made before the Chief Electoral Officer under the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.
The CEO also highlighted that the Election Department is carrying out mapping of electors and their progeny with the 2005 Electoral Rolls, the last Special Intensive Revision conducted in Tripura. Citizens can verify their previous SIR details through the CEO's official website.
To ensure smooth implementation, the Election Department has completed state-level training for election officials, political parties and Booth Level Agents. A total of 3,356 BLOs and 375 BLO Supervisors will be deployed across the state. Meetings with political parties have already been held at the state level, while district and sub-divisional level interactions are also underway. Dedicated helpdesks and toll-free numbers have been established at the CEO and DEO levels to assist electors throughout the revision process.
Appealing for widespread public participation, Pandey urged the media, political parties and civil society to support the awareness campaign and help counter misinformation regarding the revision exercise. Reiterating the Election Commission's commitment to free and fair elections, he said the objective is to prepare an electoral roll that is accurate, inclusive and credible.
He concluded with the Election Commission's guiding principle for the exercise: "No eligible elector should be left out, and no ineligible person should remain enrolled."
