Defalcation of funds, ex-pradhan held

An ex-Panchayat Pradhan identified as Habib Uddin had been arrested by the police at Kailashahar for his alleged involvement in defalcation of funds worth Rs 36 allocated for installation of hand-pumps and bamboo made fences under Srinathpur Panchayat. A team of police from Irani police station arrested the accused and produced him before the Court on Thursday. Speaking on the issue, SDPO Kailashahar Jayanta Karmakar said, “The case was registered with the Irani police station in 2022 under IPC section 409. The allegations were primarily raised against Panchayat Secretary Iamir Ali. He was subsequently arrested and the investigation was started. During the interrogation of Ali, several important facts related to the case came into our notice which indicated that Panchayat Pradhaan Habib Uddin was also involved in the financial defalcation.” According to Karmakar, a team of cops arrested Habib Uddin and later produced him before the court on Thursday. “He had been arrested and produced before the court. The prime accused in the case is now out on bail. The investigation into the case is underway.”
