Man gets life term for murder

In a significant judgement, the Additional Sessions Judge of Kamalpur, Dhalai District, has convicted Subhash Debnath (22), son of Binay Bhushan Debnath of Baligaon, under Kamalpur Police Station. He has been sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life and fined Rs. 10,000. In default of payment, he will have to undergo an additional six months of simple imprisonment. The conviction is related to the offense punishable under Section 302 IPC in connection with ST (T-I) 19/2013 and Kamalpur PS Case No. 64/2012 under Sections 498(A)/302 IPC.
According to a Tripura Police press statement, on May 13, 2012, at approximately 2:00 AM, the accused allegedly set fire to the complainant’s sister after pouring kerosene on her body with the intention of killing her. The victim succumbed to her injuries the following day, May 14, 2012, at around 5:40 PM while undergoing treatment at GBP Hospital.
It is important to highlight the role of the investigating officers in this case. The first Investigating Officer, SI Ratan Debbarma of Kamalpur Police Station, and the second Investigating Officer, Dy.SP Bikash Deb (SDPO, Kamalpur), conducted thorough investigations. Their efforts led to the submission of a charge sheet, which ultimately resulted in the conviction of the accused.
