BJP accuses CPI(M) of pursuing politics of religious division

The ruling BJP in Tripura on Saturday accused the opposition CPI(M) of attempting to create religious divisions for political gains and alleged that the Left party was trying to mislead people through its statements on recent issues.

Addressing a press conference here, BJP spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty alleged that the CPI(M) was resorting to "politics of religious division" instead of raising public issues responsibly.

Referring to recent statements made by CPI(M) leaders, Chakraborty claimed the opposition was making attempts to create confusion among people by linking various incidents with communal issues.

He said the BJP government was committed to maintaining peace, communal harmony and law and order in the state, and alleged that the Left was trying to derive political mileage by making "baseless" allegations.

The BJP leader also criticised the CPI(M)'s stand on issues concerning minorities and alleged that the opposition was attempting to polarise society for electoral purposes.

He said the BJP believed in development and inclusive governance and asserted that the state government was working for all sections of society without discrimination.

Chakraborty urged the opposition to refrain from making statements that could disturb social harmony and instead play a constructive role in a democratic system.

He also claimed that the people of Tripura had rejected the CPI(M)'s politics and continued to repose faith in the BJP because of its governance and development initiatives.

The BJP leader alleged that the opposition was trying to divert public attention from development-related issues by making politically motivated remarks.

The CPI(M) has recently stepped up its criticism of the BJP-led government on issues including law and order, unemployment and alleged misuse of government machinery, while announcing a series of statewide protests beginning later this month.
