Nine Schools in Ramchandraghat Without Permanent Headmasters, MLA Ranjit Debbarma Writes to Chief Minister Seeking Immediate Appointments

A serious administrative crisis has emerged in the education sector of Tripura's Ramchandraghat Assembly Constituency, where nine government schools are reportedly functioning without permanent headmasters, raising concerns over academic standards, school administration, and the future of hundreds of students. Highlighting the issue, Ramchandraghat MLA Ranjit Debbarma has written to Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, urging immediate intervention and the appointment of permanent Headmasters and Assistant Headmasters in the affected institutions.

In a letter dated July 30, 2026, the MLA stated that several schools in the constituency have been operating for a prolonged period without permanent leadership. According to him, the absence of Headmasters—and in some cases Assistant Headmasters as well, has severely weakened the administrative framework of these schools, making it increasingly difficult to ensure smooth academic functioning and effective implementation of educational activities.

The letter provides a detailed account of the staffing situation in the constituency's schools. It states that Gourangatila Higher Secondary School, Ratanpur Higher Secondary School, and Ampura Higher Secondary School have vacancies in both the Headmaster and Assistant Headmaster posts. Meanwhile, Baijalbari Higher Secondary School, Baramaydan Higher Secondary School, and Birchandrapur Higher Secondary School are functioning without permanent Headmasters and have only one Assistant Headmaster each. The situation is expected to worsen further at Baramaydan Higher Secondary School, where the existing Assistant Headmaster is scheduled to retire by September 2026.

The crisis also extends to the high school level. KMR High School, Debendra Choudhury High School, and Wandalwang High School are also functioning without permanent Headmasters, leaving the institutions without stable academic and administrative leadership.

MLA Debbarma noted in his letter that the people of the constituency remain grateful to the Chief Minister for recently laying the foundation stone of the new school building at Baijalbari Higher Secondary School. However, he emphasized that modern infrastructure alone cannot ensure quality education unless schools have qualified and permanent academic leadership.

Describing the schools as functioning in an orphaned administrative condition, the MLA appealed to the Chief Minister to consider the issue sympathetically and take urgent steps to fill the vacant posts of Headmasters and Assistant Headmasters.

Local residents and parents have also expressed concern, stating that prolonged vacancies in key leadership positions are adversely affecting school management, academic discipline, and the overall learning environment. They have urged the state government to expedite the recruitment process so that students do not continue to suffer due to administrative shortcomings.

The issue has once again brought attention to the broader challenge of filling vacant leadership positions in government schools, with stakeholders stressing that timely appointments are essential to maintaining educational standards and ensuring effective governance of educational institutions.
