Manipur Police Promotes Grassroots Sports: DGP Rajiv Singh Inaugurates Boxing Championship and Baby League

The Director General of Police, Manipur, Shri Rajiv Singh, IPS, inaugurated the 4th Master Boys and Girls Boxing Championship (6 to 12 years) and the 1st State Level Blue Cubs Baby League (6 to 12 years) at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex today. The event reaffirms the Manipur Police’s commitment to nurturing young sporting talent in the state.

Addressing dignitaries, officials, coaches, parents, and young participants as the Chief Guest, DGP Rajiv Singh highlighted Manipur’s rich sporting heritage. He emphasized that the state has produced world-class athletes, including Olympic medalists and international champions. Stressing the importance of grassroots sports development, he noted that it is crucial for sustaining this legacy and shaping disciplined, determined individuals.

Acknowledging the prevailing situation in Manipur, which has been affected by violence for almost two years, the DGP expressed concern over its impact on the youth. He underlined the role of sports as a unifying force that fosters discipline, health, and resilience. To address this, Manipur Police has adopted a proactive approach under the "Catch Them Young" initiative. The newly introduced Baby League aims to groom future champions while providing a joyful and enriching experience for children as young as six years old.

DGP Singh further highlighted Manipur Police’s consistent efforts in promoting sports, noting that the force has over 400 athletes across various disciplines. He proudly mentioned renowned players like Mary Kom, Sarita Laishram, Mirabai Chanu, Bala Devi, and Sarjubala Devi, who have been part of Manipur Police’s sporting legacy.

In a strong appeal to misguided youths engaged in anti-social activities, the DGP urged them to channel their energy into sports. He emphasized that sports provide an alternative path fostering discipline, teamwork, and a sense of purpose, leading to a brighter future for individuals and society alike.

Encouraging young athletes, he advised them to compete with integrity, passion, and sportsmanship while embracing the core values of perseverance and friendship. He also commended coaches and parents for their unwavering support in guiding young talents towards excellence.

Reiterating Manipur Police’s dedication to youth development and crime prevention through sports engagement, the DGP assured continued support for initiatives contributing to the holistic growth of children and society. With great enthusiasm, he officially declared the 4th Master Boys and Girls Boxing Championship and the 1st State Level Blue Cubs Baby League open, marking the beginning of an inspiring sporting journey for the participants.
