The candidates from Tripura for recruitment to short-tenure ‘Agniveer’ service in the army have achieved remarkable success this year, far better than what was achieved last year. An official press note issued by the state government said that this year altogether 4885 candidates had taken the exam this year, held in Silchar in the Barak Valley district of Assam and out of them 1367 candidates have got through it successfully. This works out to 96% more than last year when only 697 candidates were able to clear the written exam.

The conclusion of the written exam process will be followed by physical and medical tests for final recruitment in the army . It has been clearly stated in the official press note that the Army and Assam Rifles forces posted in the state greatly helped the candidates to prepare for this exam which was held by the Silchar-based army recruiting office under the Shillong-based zonal recruiting office.

Official sources here said that the state government feels that the next rally for physical and medical tests for candidates selected in the written exam should be held in the open and spacious Dasharath Deb stadium in south Agartala . Generally such rallies are held in the month of October because of heavy rain in monsoon months and for the Tripura candidates the Dasharath Deb stadium is best suited for physical and medical test rallies.

The state government is also preparing to make a move for having a recruitment centre for ‘Agniveers’ set up in Tripura because the Silchar-based centre recruits candidates not only from entire Tripura but also from several districts of Assam. Tripura government is planning to approach the army’s ‘Agniveer’ recruitment authority to set up a separate centre at Agartala for recruitment of Tripura candidates.
