Niti Deb's Presence Alongside Chief Minister at Deputy Speaker's Guru Purnima Event Triggers Political Speculation in Tripura

The presence of Niti Deb, former wife of former Chief Minister and current MP Biplab Kumar Deb, alongside Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha and Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy at a Guru Purnima celebration hosted at the residence of Tripura Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Ramprasad Paul has sparked widespread political speculation across the state.

The religious function, organized to mark Guru Purnima, was attended by several senior BJP leaders, ministers, public representatives and social personalities. However, it was Niti Deb's appearance in the front row with the Chief Minister and other senior leaders, along with her cordial interaction with them, that became the major talking point of the event.

Eyewitnesses said Niti Deb exchanged pleasantries with several BJP leaders and was seen engaged in a lengthy conversation with Chief Minister Manik Saha. Although no details of the discussion were disclosed, the meeting has fuelled speculation about whether it was merely a courtesy interaction or an indication of evolving political equations in the state.

Niti Deb has remained active in social work through the organization Purvodoy and has drawn public attention in recent months through several social media posts, including comments on law and order, drug abuse, and alleged threats she claimed to have received after her divorce from Biplab Kumar Deb.

Given the political backdrop and the widely discussed differences that have existed between Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Niti Deb's presence at the Deputy Speaker's residence and her sharing of the stage with the Chief Minister and Finance Minister have inevitably generated questions within political circles.

At present, there has been no official statement from Niti Deb or the BJP suggesting any political move or future role. As such, any interpretation that she is preparing to enter active politics remains speculative.

Whether the Guru Purnima meeting was simply an occasion of social courtesy or the beginning of a new political chapter in Tripura is likely to become clearer in the days ahead.
