Where ignorance is bliss, it is foolish to be wise and to speak the truth, circus goes on in Indian politics

Amid the expected opposition ruckus in Loksabha it was perhaps too much for the suave speaker Om Birla to put up with : he had been forced to intervene as the Congress’s leader of the opposition basking in the glory of Cockroach Janata Party’s success in the sponsored protest programme against the NEET question paper leak hurled a five-letter invective at the treasury bench. Birla ordered that the invective be expunged from recorded proceedings and peace was restored today in the cacophonous debate over the NEET exam reform bill. In Indian parliament this is nothing new as political and legislative discourse in the country have already descended to a new low over the past twelve years as a frustrated opposition look for straws to turn the tables on the ruling BJP, not by mobilizing people on legitimate issues of public concern but by resorting to falsehood and fakery underlined by vile abuses.

But what happened yesterday in the Loksabha was more stunning as a female dynast of the opposition termed universally respected scholar and incumbent director of premier IIT (Madras) Dr V.Kamakoti Veejhinathan as a ‘cow urine expert’ while questioning the composition of the committee constituted by Centre for exam reforms. The great scientist Kamakoti has also successfully completed as many as 18 scientific and technological projects assigned by the government of India and is now working on devising the first Indian microprocessor for computers-an exalted field considered till now the exclusive preserve of the USA, China and Russia. Nandan Nilekani, the fabled technocrat and co-founder of INFOSYS who had earlier led the ‘Aadhar’ project with eminent success and is now a member of the exam reform committee, was also dismissed as a software entrepreneur having no knowledge of academics and education. Former IB director Tapan Deka, nominated as member of the reform committee was also similarly pooh-poohed as ineligible for manning the committee. The government , it seems, might have made a mistake by not including the Lady Dynast with questionable competence in the committee.

Now coming to the moot point, the IIT (Madras) director V.Kamakoti Veejhinathan, had made a cardinal mistake in the eyes of India’s ‘Macular’ and intellectually bankrupt opposition by flagging the medicinal properties contained in cow urine in a formal discourse. Long accustomed to deriding Hindus and their devotion to cow, its urine and cowdung , the ‘Macular’ opposition found it difficult to stomach the paeans sung by Kamakoti to the utility of cow urine and the poisoned bile was spewed in Loksabha.

But facts are often stranger than fiction : the cow urine has been patented in the world’s most advanced country , the USA with officially designated numbers-6,896,907 and 6,410,059 because of its ingrained medicinal properties such as ‘bio-enhancer’, ‘anti-biotic’, ‘anti-fungal’ and ,most important of all , ‘anti-cancer’. Besides, Ms Navjot Kaur Sidhu, herself a doctor and wife of former Indian cricketer , BJP and then Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, had asserted in an interaction with the media that she had got cured of her breast cancer by using cow urine while having baths and using it otherwise. That should have set at rest all misgivings and derisive comments but no, the ‘Maculars’ remain indomitable in castigating and running down all that is Hindu including its symbols and teachings.

But the blissfully ignorant political class also care little for the fact that India’s annual export of cowdung now stands at more than Rs 400.00 crores- it was exactly this figure in the financial year 2023-2024. And why so ? The cowdung is exported mostly to countries of the Middle East including UAE, Qatar , Quait and Saudi Arabia as it has been scientifically established that use and application of cowdung on soil helps retain moisture, improve soil health, boost up yields from cultivated land and is perfect for dryland farming. And in several countries in the desert land of Arabia, governments deploy special and high-power air-conditioners to ensure that cows do not suffer in the 56 degree Celsius heat wave and that their milk yields remain unaffected.

The ancient Indian sages and saints who advocated the proper maintenance and careful rearing of cattles, cows etc were infinitely wiser than our ‘Murkh’ political entrepreneurs and this is the reason why they camouflaged their lessons in religious colours , making cow the mount of Lord Krishna and the bull as the mount of Lord Siva. Their purpose was to put the fear of God in the minds of people so that they refrain from harming such invaluable animals by consuming their meat or by otherwise abusing them. After all , fear is the most powerful deterrent against crimes or evil action but our politicians seem immune to all divine or even mundane considerations.
