The Centre for Financial Literacy (CFL), Amarpur, implemented by Bagma Agri Producer Company Limited (BAPCL) under the Reserve Bank of India's Moneywise Financial Literacy Project with the support of NABARD, continues to make significant strides in promoting financial literacy and financial inclusion across rural Tripura.

Serving 36 villages under Amarpur R.D. Block, Karbook Block and Ompi Block, the Centre has achieved an impressive 68.73 percent population coverage, comprising 25 percent male and 43.73 percent female beneficiaries. The initiative has emerged as an important platform for empowering rural households with essential financial knowledge while facilitating greater access to formal banking services. At present, the Centre extends its services to 14 villages in Amarpur R.D. Block, 11 villages in Ompi Block, and 11 villages in Karbook Block. The Centre is managed by Ms. Souramita Paul, Centre Manager, with the dedicated support of Pinku Ghosh (Data Entry Operator), Ganesh Ch. Das (Block Coordinator) and Susanta Chakma, whose collective efforts have contributed significantly to the successful implementation of the programme.

To assess the progress of the initiative, Tanushri Bhattacharya, Officer-in-Charge (OIC), NABARD Regional Office, Tripura, visited the Amarpur CFL Centre on July 24. During her interaction with the implementation team, she appreciated the Centre's consistent efforts in expanding financial literacy, encouraging responsible financial behaviour, and connecting rural households with formal financial institutions.Highlighting NABARD's commitment to inclusive rural development, Tanushri Bhattacharya advised the CFL team to intensify efforts in facilitating Kisan Credit Card (KCC) coverage among eligible farmers. She emphasized that timely access to institutional credit through KCC would enable farmers to meet their agricultural investment needs, reduce dependence on informal moneylenders, and contribute to enhanced agricultural productivity and rural prosperity.

Recognizing the rapid growth of digital financial services, she also stressed the importance of strengthening digital financial literacy among rural communities. She encouraged the Centre to conduct regular awareness campaigns on cyber security, safe digital banking practices, phishing attacks, fake loan offers, fraudulent phone calls, malicious links, OTP-related frauds, and other emerging cyber threats. According to her, informed and vigilant customers are the strongest defence against digital financial fraud. Tanushri Bhattacharya further advised the CFL team to counsel rural families on responsible borrowing practices and discourage excessive dependence on Micro Finance Institutions (MFIs) where institutional banking facilities are readily available. She encouraged beneficiaries to make greater use of banks and other regulated financial institutions for sustainable financial management and long-term economic security.

The review meeting was attended by Sudip Majumder, Managing Director of BAPCL, along with the Amarpur CFL implementation team, including Souramita Paul, Pinku Ghosh and Ganesh Ch. Das, who shared the Centre's achievements and future action plans.Reaffirming its commitment to NABARD's vision of inclusive and sustainable rural development, the Amarpur CFL team pledged to further expand financial literacy initiatives, increase KCC outreach, promote responsible borrowing habits, and strengthen awareness on digital financial safety. With continued support from RBI and NABARD, the Centre aims to ensure that an increasing number of rural families in Tripura gain access to safe, affordable and reliable financial services, thereby contributing to a more financially empowered and resilient rural society.
