Senior Congress leader and MLA Gopal Chandra Roy has urged the Tripura government to adopt a comprehensive industrial policy to address unemployment and accelerate economic growth in the state.
Roy criticized the government's employment record, alleging that despite repeated promises, large-scale job creation has not materialized. He said conflicting figures on employment generated by different ministers have created confusion and raised questions about the government's claims.
Highlighting Tripura's untapped natural resources, Roy stressed that the state has significant potential for industries based on natural gas, petroleum, and mineral resources. He pointed out that neighboring Assam has successfully attracted major investments in oil and gas-based industries, while Tripura has yet to fully utilize its own reserves.
The Congress MLA also called for the expansion of gas-based industries, fertilizer plants, and other manufacturing units that could generate substantial employment opportunities. He noted that bamboo, agarwood, rubber, and other forest-based resources also offer immense potential for value-added industries and exports.
Roy emphasized that a well-planned industrial policy could create both direct and indirect employment for thousands of young people while boosting the state's revenue and reducing dependence on government jobs.
He urged the state government to take immediate initiatives to attract investment, develop industrial infrastructure, and formulate long-term policies to transform Tripura into an industrially vibrant state.
