The All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Sunday appointed Amir Hossain as the ad hoc president of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) in Tripura with immediate effect.

The appointment was approved by the Congress president and announced through a press release issued by AICC general secretary K C Venugopal.

According to the release, the decision is part of the party's organisational restructuring in the student wing. Along with Tripura, the Congress also appointed Bibhuti Bhusan Mohapatra as the ad hoc NSUI president for Odisha.

Hossain will take charge of the student organisation in Tripura with immediate effect and is expected to oversee organisational activities and strengthen the NSUI in the state ahead of future political and student-related programmes.
