Questions Mount Over Alleged TTADC Recruitment Irregularities as High Court Seeks Details, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma's Silence Draws Criticism

A fresh political and administrative controversy has emerged in Tripura over allegations of irregular recruitment under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTADC), with sections of the tribal community questioning the silence of Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma amid claims that around 180-200 appointments were allegedly made without interviews through a non-transparent process.
The allegations, which remain unproven and are currently the subject of judicial proceedings, have intensified after the Tripura High Court sought additional information from the TTADC regarding the recruitment process for the posts of Sub-Zonal Development Officer (Sub-ZDO) and Deputy Principal Officer (Dy. PO) and so many group C and D posts.
According to critics, concerns have been raised over whether appointments were made without following due recruitment procedures, including the publication of proper notifications and the conduct of interviews. Some members of the tribal community have publicly questioned why Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, who had earlier criticised previous administrations over governance and development issues in the ADC, has not publicly responded to the allegations surrounding the recruitment process under the present TTADC administration led by Tipra Motha.
These political allegations have not been independently verified, and no judicial finding has established any illegality in the appointments.
The controversy has reached the Tripura High Court through multiple petitions. In WP(C) No. 73 of 2026, Akash Debbarma and seven other petitioners challenged aspects of the recruitment process relating to the posts of Sub-ZDO and Dy. PO under the TTADC.
The matter came up for hearing before the Single Bench of Justice Biswajit Palit on July 17, 2026. Advocate Pallabi Debbarma appeared for the petitioners, while Advocate Bhaskar Debbarma represented the TTADC.
After hearing both sides, the High Court directed that the matter be listed again on October 8, 2026. The Court also instructed the TTADC to place additional materials on record explaining the process followed for issuing the recruitment notification and other relevant aspects of the selection procedure before the next hearing.
The order effectively requires the respondent authorities to furnish further details concerning the recruitment process, while the Court continues to examine the issues raised in the writ petition.
The recruitment case has attracted widespread attention among educated unemployed youth across Tripura, particularly within the tribal areas, as it concerns appointments to important administrative posts in the Autonomous District Council. Many job aspirants are closely watching the proceedings, hoping that the judicial process will provide clarity regarding the fairness and transparency of the recruitment exercise.
The case comes against the backdrop of several recruitment-related litigations in Tripura in recent years. Various candidates have approached the courts alleging question paper leaks, procedural irregularities, lack of transparency, favouritism and violations of recruitment norms in different selection processes. Those allegations have been made by petitioners in separate cases and remain subject to judicial scrutiny.
Supporters of the petitioners have stated that the legal battle has been initiated to ensure transparency, fairness and equal opportunity in public recruitment, expressing gratitude to Akash Debbarma and the other petitioners for pursuing the matter before the High Court.
As the matter is sub judice, no final judicial determination has yet been made regarding the allegations raised in the writ petition.
