CPIM Opposes Renaming of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Homeopathic Hospital, Demands Immediate Rollback

A fresh political controversy has erupted in Tripura following the state government's decision to rename the historic Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Homeopathic Hospital as the Tripura Government Homeopathic Medical College and Hospital. The opposition CPI(M) has strongly condemned the move, describing it as an attempt to erase the legacy of one of India's greatest freedom fighters.

Addressing the media in Agartala, CPI(M) State Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury expressed strong opposition to the government's decision, alleging that the BJP-led administration is gradually attempting to remove the names of eminent personalities associated with India's freedom struggle from public institutions. He termed the renaming of the state's premier homeopathic institution as "unnecessary, insensitive, and historically unjustified."

Chaudhury said the institution could have been upgraded to a medical college without removing the name of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. According to him, there was no administrative or legal necessity to drop Netaji's name while granting the institution medical college status. Instead, he argued, the government should have retained the historic identity of the institution while adding the new academic designation.

The CPI(M) leader alleged that the present government has repeatedly failed to give due recognition to India's freedom fighters and national icons. He claimed that a pattern has emerged of replacing the names of legendary personalities with generic institutional titles, which, according to him, undermines their contribution to the nation.

Chaudhury asserted that Netaji's name carries immense emotional and historical significance across the country and cannot be erased from any institution with which it has long been associated. He remarked that removing Netaji's name amounts to disrespecting not only the iconic freedom fighter but also the ideals of India's independence movement and the countless freedom fighters who sacrificed for the nation.

He appealed to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and the state government to immediately reconsider and withdraw the decision. Chaudhury urged the government to restore the original name in deference to the sentiments of the people of Tripura and all those who hold Netaji in the highest regard.
