Triple Murder or Staged Suicide? Mysterious Deaths of Three Family Members Shock South Tripura, Probe Intensifies

A mysterious incident involving the deaths of three members of the same family in South Tripura's West Muhuripur under Shantirbazar subdivision has sent shockwaves across the state, with investigators facing mounting questions over whether the case is a brutal triple murder or a carefully staged suicide.
The deceased have been identified as Shankar Chakraborty, his wife Chhabi Chakraborty, and their younger son Krishna Chakraborty. According to police, the blood-soaked bodies of Shankar and Chhabi were recovered from inside their residence, while Krishna's body was found hanging inside the same house.
The gruesome nature of the incident has triggered widespread speculation among local residents, many of whom believe the deaths do not appear to be a straightforward case of suicide. Police from Baikhora and Belonia police stations, along with senior district officials, rushed to the spot after receiving information and launched an investigation. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, while forensic experts are expected to play a crucial role in determining the sequence of events.
According to family members, Mithun Chakraborty, the elder son of the deceased couple, said that his younger brother Krishna, working in a private company, had called him and asked him to collect the key of their house from a nearby relative's residence. When Mithun returned with the key, he found the house locked from inside, raising suspicion.
Unable to enter, Mithun allegedly looked through a rear window and was horrified by what he saw. According to his account, Krishna was hanging inside the house, while his mother Chhabi was lying in a pool of blood with deep injuries to her neck. His father Shankar was also found dead with severe head injuries and blood around him. Mithun immediately alerted neighbours and informed the police.
The local residents further states that Krishna had recently fall in love with a girl but he recently lost his job and had been staying with his parents. However, relatives have strongly denied that there was any serious family dispute or domestic conflict that could explain such a tragedy. They have demanded a fair, scientific and impartial investigation into the deaths.
The circumstances at the crime scene have fuelled further suspicion. Local residents and eyewitnesses questioned the initial suicide theory, claiming that Krishna's hands appeared to have been tied, making it difficult to believe that he could have hanged himself in that condition. They also questioned how two victims could suffer extensive bleeding injuries while the third was found hanging, suggesting that the deaths may involve foul play rather than a simple murder-suicide.
Police have not ruled out any possibility and are awaiting the post-mortem and forensic examination reports before reaching any conclusion. Investigators are expected to examine the crime scene in detail, collect physical and biological evidence, analyse call records, and record statements of relatives and neighbours to reconstruct the sequence of events.
The shocking incident has also reignited concerns over the investigation of suspicious deaths in Tripura. Several local residents alleged that many unnatural death cases remain unresolved for years and urged the authorities not to reach premature conclusions but to rely on scientific evidence and forensic findings.
As the investigation continues, the mystery surrounding the deaths of the Chakraborty family remains unsolved. Whether it was a tragic murder-suicide or a meticulously planned triple murder disguised as suicide will ultimately depend on the findings of the post-mortem examination, forensic evidence, and the ongoing police investigation.
