In a significant recognition for Tripura's administrative services, Ms. Deepa D. Nair, a 2001 batch Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer of the Tripura cadre, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Coconut Development Board (CDB), Kochi, under the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India.

The appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) through an order issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) on July 24, 2026. According to the official notification, Ms. Nair has been appointed at the Joint Secretary level in Pay Level-14 (Rs.1,44,200–2,18,200) of the Pay Matrix for a period of five years from the date of assuming charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

A respected officer of the Tripura cadre, Deepa D. Nair has held several important positions in the state government during her distinguished career. She has served as Secretary, Animal Resources Development Department (ARDD) and Secretary, Fisheries.

However, the development has also sparked discussions within administrative circles in Tripura. The state has long faced a shortage of senior officers, with many experienced IAS, IFS and IPS officers remaining on Central deputation even after completion of their tenure. In such a situation, the deputation of another senior and experienced officer like Deepa D. Nair is likely to further reduce the pool of senior administrators available for the state government.

Observers point out that Tripura has been experiencing a shortage of senior bureaucrats to handle key departments, and the absence of officers with extensive administrative experience could place additional pressure on the existing administration. While her appointment is a matter of pride for Tripura, some administrative experts believe the state will have to strengthen its senior leadership to ensure continuity in governance and policy implementation.

The official order, signed by Annies Kanmani Joy, Director, Department of Personnel & Training, confirms that Ms. Deepa D. Nair will assume the post of Chief Executive Officer (Joint Secretary level), Coconut Development Board, Kochi, under the Government of India, marking another significant milestone in the career of one of Tripura's senior-most Indian Forest Service officers.
