Special Investigation Team Formed to Probe Tripura DGP's Death

The Tripura Police Headquarters has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a detailed probe into the death of Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar. The decision comes as the investigation into the high-profile case gathers momentum.

According to an official order issued by the Office of the Director General of Police, the investigation into West Agartala Police Station UD Case No. 2026WAG045, registered on July 20, 2026 under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), will be led by the Superintendent of Police (West Tripura).

The investigation team will be assisted by Additional Superintendent of Police (Urban), Dhruba Nath, and Sub-Inspector Shubhojit Deb, who is the present Investigating Officer of the case. The order further states that, if required, the SIT may seek assistance from officers of the Tripura Police Crime Branch or any other police unit. Technical support from the Cyber Crime Unit of the Tripura Police Crime Branch may also be utilized whenever necessary.

To ensure close supervision and accountability, the order directs that weekly progress reports on the investigation be submitted to the Inspector General of Police (Law & Order), Tripura, for review by the Director General of Police.
