The All India Forward Bloc's Tripura State Co-ordinating Committee has strongly protested the Tripura Government's decision to remove the name of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose from the state-run hospital in Agartala, terming the move an insult to one of India's greatest freedom fighters and demanding that the original name be restored immediately.
In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister of Tripura, the Forward Bloc expressed deep dissatisfaction over the recent renaming of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Homeopathic Hospital as Tripura Government Homeopathic Medical College and Hospital. While the party stated that it has no objection to establishing or naming the institution as a government homeopathic medical college, it strongly objected to dropping Netaji's name from the hospital.
The memorandum, signed by Raghunath Sarkar on behalf of the All India Forward Bloc, Tripura State Co-ordinating Committee, stated that the contribution of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose to India's freedom struggle is unparalleled and that his legacy deserves the highest respect. According to the party, removing his name from a public institution amounts not only to disrespecting Netaji but also to undermining the sacrifices made by countless freedom fighters who fought for India's independence.
The Forward Bloc reminded the state government that the Government of India itself has consistently honoured Netaji's legacy in recent years. The party pointed out that a grand statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose has been installed near India Gate in New Delhi as a tribute to his immense contribution to the nation. Against this backdrop, the committee questioned the rationale behind removing his name from a prominent public healthcare institution in Tripura.
The party further argued that while administrative restructuring or upgrading of the hospital into a medical college may be justified, such changes should not come at the cost of erasing the identity associated with one of the country's most revered national leaders.
Demanding immediate corrective action, the Forward Bloc urged the Tripura Government to restore the hospital's previous name—Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Homeopathic Hospital—or ensure that Netaji's name continues to remain an integral part of the institution's official title.
