Tripura to introduce robotics, VR labs in Vidyajyoti schools

The Tripura government has launched an initiative to establish robotics and virtual reality (VR) laboratories in Vidyajyoti schools under the Samagra Shiksha programme to promote technology-driven learning in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

According to the School Education Department, the initiative aims to familiarise students with emerging technologies such as robotics, drones and virtual reality while encouraging experiential learning, critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving.

Schools are being equipped with the required technological infrastructure, including electronic devices, to support the new laboratories.

To prepare teachers for the programme, a five-day training session began at Shishu Bihar School on July 20. The training focuses on operating robotics and VR laboratories and includes practical lessons on sensor-based systems, battery-operated models, drone operations and the fundamentals of robotics.

Teachers are also being trained to operate drones through mobile applications and use VR headsets to introduce students to interactive lessons in subjects such as science, history, space and human anatomy.

The department said regular monitoring will be carried out after the laboratories become operational to ensure effective use of the facilities. It expects the initiative to make classroom learning more engaging, encourage interest in science and technology, foster innovation and equip students with skills relevant to future educational and career opportunities.
