The non-payment of bills to contractors even after completion of works by the TSECL is turning out to be a major issue as huge amounts of bills have been pending unpaid over the past two years. A group of contractors who specialize in works tendered by the TSECL today met in deputation with the MD of the corporation Biswajit Basu demanding early payment of bills . In the course of discussion with the MD the leaders of the electrical contractors association pointed out how they have not been paid any bill over the past two years despite completion of works assigned them to the satisfaction of the corporation authority. The MD cited various reasons for non-payment of bills and assured them that he would take up the issue with the departmental minister and ensure early payment.
Later speaking to media persons a spokesman of the contractors association said that non-payment of bills over the past two years has not only rendered them incapable of executing further work but of maintaining their families as well. “The situation is such that we are unable to pay up the daily rated works we engage for works and to pay the dues of businessmen who supply materials and equipments for works ; even maintaining our families is now difficult” said the spokesperson. He added that they were assured by the MD of steps to make early payment and they are now pinning hopes on the assurance for getting their dues.
