The sitting Congress MLA and former PCC president Birajit Sinha has joined the chorus of demands for high level inquiry into the now-established suicide of former DGP Anurag Dhankhar in the wash-room attached to his office chamber in the state police headquarter at Fire Brigade Chaumuhuni on July 20. While speaking to media persons in his assembly constituency of Kailasahar town Birajit expressed grave concern over the suicide of Anurag Dhankhar and described the self-killing of such a high official as ‘extremely worrisome’.
“The sequence of events leading to his suicide is still not clear and this has also raised serious questions in the minds of common people; the people of the state deserve a detailed explanation from the government over why such a high official as the DGP had to commit suicide in the toilet attached to his official chamber ; this is a very bizarre matter” said Birajit.
He also said that the state government should constitute a commission of inquiry headed by a sitting high court judge with direction to him to complete the process in a time-bound manner. “The people of the state are keen to know the detailed background of the suicide and the reasons for this ; the chief minister Dr Manik Saha himself should take the initiative for a fair and just inquiry and apprise people of the conclusions drawn by it” said Birajit Sinha.
