In a bizarre and absolutely shameful development the judicial magistrate court in Sonamura has ordered registration of FIR and investigation into robbery charges brought by a civilian against the then officer in charge of Sonamura police station Paritosh Das (currently posted in West Agartala PS) and SPO Dilwar Hossain of the same police station . Even though the FIRs have been registered under court order and investigation has been launched both Paritosh Das and Dilwar Hossain remain scot free in stead of being arrested and put under suspension. The police top brass, already known to be absolutely incompetent in performing essential duties, continue to maintain a stoic inertia and silence over the issue.

Sources from Sonamura said that the then officer in charge of the Sonamura police station, Paritosh Das had been tipped off by his close lackey and SPO jawan Dilwar Hossain that a civilian Arshad Rahaman of NC Nagar area had earned Rs 16 lakhs by selling a plot of land and the money was in his house. Their plan was to rob the money of Arshad Rahaman and to that end OC Paritosh Das with a police force raided the residence of Arshad Rahaman in the wee hours of 5th November last year on the pretext of searching for a fugitive criminal from Chennai. But after ransacking Arshad Rahaman’s house OC Paritosh Das virtually committed a robbery by snatching away Rs 16 lakh in cash from the former’s house. This had been reported in the state’s media but there was no protest or reaction from the inert police department of the state. Hapless Arshad Rahaman had informed the higher police authority of what had been done to him by OC Paritosh Das and SPO Dilwar Hossain but got no relief.

Having no other alternative Arshad Rahaman tried to register a FIR against Paritosh Das but failed and finally he had moved the high court through his lawyer Purushottam Roybarman who obtained an order directing the plaintiff to move lower court for relief. The matter was raised before the judicial magistrate (1st class), Sonamura, who considered all aspects and ordered police to register FIR against Paritosh Das and Dilwar Hossain on December 13 last year under various sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (BNS). The FIR had to be registered perforce on February 7 this year. In order to have the order on FIR registration quashed Paritosh Das and Dilwar Hossain had moved the Sepahijala district and session court but got no relief as a high court order had asked the complainant Arshad Rahaman to move the court for proceedings against Paritosh Das and Dilwar Hossain. Their revision petition had to be withdrawn yesterday and now the investigation will continue and action on FIR will have to be taken.

However, the people of Sonamura expressed astonishment over the inert role of the police top brass who have so far taken no action against Paritosh Das and Dilwar Hossain in spite of so many things having already happened. They should have been arrested already and put at least under suspension, many people said . The complainant Arshad Rahaman was represented in the case by advocate Purushottam Roybarman and his juniors Kaushik Nath, Dipjyoti Paul and Manish Paul.
