Former CM Biplab Kumar Deb's Former Wife Niti Deb Raises Concerns Over Safety in Tripura After DGP's Death

Niti Deb, former wife of former Tripura Chief Minister and current West Tripura Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb, on Tuesday shared a strongly worded post on social media expressing concern over the sense of security among citizens in the state following the recent death of Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar.

In her post, Niti Deb recounted a conversation with a woman working at her residence, who allegedly asked whether it was still safe to live freely in Tripura. According to her, the woman referred to the DGP's death inside his office washroom and questioned how ordinary citizens could feel protected in such circumstances. She also claimed that incidents of drug abuse and crime were occurring openly without fear.

Niti Deb wrote that the conversation left her deeply disturbed and prompted her to reflect on whether such fears were shared by many people or whether only a few individuals were attempting to create unrest. She questioned whether Tripura's future would be shaped by hope or overshadowed by leaders who, in her view, appeared to place personal interests above public safety.

She also referred to her own past experiences, claiming that she had previously received threats warning her not to return to Tripura or face mob violence. Describing herself as fearless, she said she was prepared to face any adversity and would never bow before injustice or dictatorship. Citing her Punjabi heritage and invoking the legacy of King Porus (Raja Puru), she stated that faith gave her the courage to stand firm against intimidation.

Emphasising that the issue extended beyond her personal safety, Niti Deb said many people in the state were feeling anxious and insecure after what she described as the "shocking and mysterious" death of DGP Anurag Dhankar. She said such incidents naturally raise concerns about the safety of citizens and their families.

At the same time, she expressed confidence in Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, saying she believed he would restore public confidence and give the highest priority to the safety and security of every citizen. She appealed for unity among the people and urged everyone to work together for a future where all residents could feel safe and secure in Tripura.
