Tripura scholar conferred prestigious Syn Talk award for original research

Tripura-born academician and research scholar Nayan Chakraborty has brought laurels to the state by winning the highly prestigious Syn Talk award that carries a cash prize of 50 thousand dollars and a gold medal weighing 100 grams. Nayan who is now engaged in research work in the Bengaluru based TATA institute of fundamental research (TIFR) was given away the prestigious award in a colourful programme in Mumbai in presence of leading scientists of the state on July 12.

Dr Nayan Chakrabort is the only son of professor (retired) Triprimay Chakraborty and Smt Krishna Chakraborty. The research work for which he was conferred the award was on ‘compartmentalisation dynamics at the origins of life’ which provides an alternative to Charles Darwin’s theory on the origin of the species or creationist theory. Dr Nayan Chakraborty’s research has stirred the academic world in the matter of inter-disciplinary research. Impressed by Nayan Chakraborty’s research the director general of ISRO who was an honoured guest in the award giving function said that Dr Nayan Chakraborty’s research gives a clue to the search for life in the Moon and the red planet-that is Mars and this will be utilized by space scientists in their search for life there.
