Tripura DGP Anurag Dhankar Cremated with Full Honours at Native Village in Uttar Pradesh Baraut (Baghpat)

Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar, IPS, who was found dead in his office chamber on July 20 in an apparent case of suicide, was cremated with full honours at his native village of Baraut in Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday.

The funeral was attended by family members, relatives, friends, and a large number of police, CBI, CISF, CRPF, BSF personnel who gathered to pay their last respects to the senior IPS officer. Representing the Tripura Police, senior officers including Rajiv Singh, IPS, Anish Prasad, IPS, Sourabh Tripathi, IPS, Kanta Jahangir, IPS, Ramesh Yadav , IPS, Laki Chouhan, IPS and several other officials were present during the cremation ceremony to bid a final farewell to their colleague.

Dhankar's mortal remains had earlier been brought from Agartala to his hometown after police personnel, government officials, and dignitaries paid their respects during a ceremonial farewell in Tripura. His untimely death has left the police fraternity and the people of Tripura in deep shock.

The circumstances surrounding his death continue to be investigated. The Tripura Government spouse to be constituted a committee of senior police officers to examine all aspects of the case, while forensic and other investigative procedures are underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to his death.

Anurag Dhankar, a 1994-batch IPS officer, had assumed charge as the Director General of Police of Tripura in 2025 after serving in several important positions during his distinguished career. His death has been widely mourned across the state, with political leaders, civil servants, police personnel, and citizens expressing grief and paying tribute to his dedicated service.

As the funeral concluded at his native village today morning, colleagues and loved ones remembered him as a committed police officer whose service to the nation and the people of Tripura will be remembered with respect.
