Two Mysterious Deaths in Tripura Raise Questions, Families Allege Foul Play, Police Await Post-Mortem Reports

Two separate mysterious death cases reported from different parts of Tripura have triggered widespread concern, with grieving families alleging foul play and demanding impartial investigations. While police have launched inquiries in both incidents, officials said the exact causes of death will be determined only after post-mortem examinations and forensic analysis.
In the first incident, a young man identified as Rahul Chakraborty was found dead at nearby jungle in the Darogabari area under Amtali Police Station in West Tripura. His body was recovered hanging condition from a tree , but family members have rejected suggestions that it was merely an suicide.
According to the family, Rahul's death is highly suspicious and they suspect he may have been murdered. They have demanded a fair and impartial investigation and appealed for the intervention of the Chief Minister to ensure justice.
Relatives claimed that Rahul had recently been involved in a financial dispute relating to the proposed sale of his ancestral house. They believe the dispute may have led to hostility and could be linked to his death. Family members also questioned several circumstances surrounding the incident, including the fact that Rahul's mobile phone, which was reportedly functional until around 11 p.m., was not recovered from the scene despite the body being found later.
Locals also questioned how Rahul could have entered jungle in an area where people normally do not go. They urged investigators to examine his mobile phone records, financial transactions, and the role of individuals who had recent contact with him. Police have recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. Officers said investigations are continuing from all possible angles and no conclusion has yet been reached regarding the cause of death.
In another incident, the body of Nivas Ray, a betel-leaf trader from Madhupur in Sepahijala district, was recovered from a pond near his residence after he had reportedly been missing for nearly ten days.
According to local residents, Nivas suddenly disappeared around ten days ago. His family, neighbours, and well-wishers searched extensively for him before lodging a missing person complaint with Madhupur Police Station. Appeals seeking information about his whereabouts were also circulated through social media and local news platforms.
On Sunday afternoon, local residents noticed a body floating in a nearby pond and immediately informed the police. The body was later identified by family members as that of Nivas Ray.
The recovery has raised several unanswered questions. Residents claimed that the deceased's clothes and a towel were found on the pond bank, prompting speculation about how he entered the water and whether the death was accidental, suicidal, or the result of a planned crime. Many locals questioned how a person missing for ten days was eventually found in a pond located close to his own house.
Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination and stated that the actual cause of death will become clear only after receiving the medical and forensic reports. Investigators are examining all possible angles, including the sequence of events leading to the deaths, while collecting evidence and questioning relevant persons.
Both incidents have generated concern in the respective localities, with residents urging the authorities to conduct transparent, scientific, and impartial investigations so that the true circumstances behind the deaths can be established.
