Reputed teacher and cultural activist Manik Lal Datta no more, CM visits home and conveys condolence

A reputed teacher of Bardowali HS (2) school of yesteryears, incumbent president of the school managing committee (SMC) and a leading cultural activist Manik Lal Datta (78) breathed his last from heart failure early this morning while under treatment in privately run ILS hospital. His mortal remains were taken to Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) office of which he was a life member , to Bardowali HS (+2) school and his ancestral home in Milan Sangha area of Bardowali amidst a grief-stricken ambience . The chief minister Dr Manik Saha visited deceased Manik Lal Datta’s ancestral home and paid tribute to him by offering a flower bouquet. The chief minister described late Manik Lal Datta as a popular teacher and cultural activist whose contribution to society will outlive him. The PCC president Asish Kumar Saha who represented the Town Bardowali constituency of which Milan Sangha is a part from 2009 to 2018 also visited the departed Datta’s home along with the sitting MLA and Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Sudip Roybarman to offer their last respects. Manik Lal Datta’s mortal remains were also taken to Mouchak club of which he had been a president for many years to allow members to pay their respects and then the cortege was taken to Battala crematorium for last rites before cremation.
Manik Lal Datta had been born in the year 1948 of late Doctor Manoranjan Datta who was also a medical practitioner and had his education in Bardowali HS school and MBB college . He joined the Bardowali school as a teacher in the year 1974 and served there till the year 2008 . All along his life he was a cultural activist and a theatre personality and contributed a lot of his savings to the ‘Jagannath Bari’and helped build an ‘Ashram’ in the Melaghar area besides financially helping many poor and needy people . The corporator of Ward no-40 of AMC Sampa Sarkar Chowdhury and her husband Jayanta Chowdhury , a former corporator and leading BJP figure in the area, conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family of Manik Lal Datta and extended all possible help in the cremation and related works.
