Chief Minister's Secretary PK Chakraborty Appointed Tripura State Election Commissioner Ahead of Crucial TTAADC Village Council Polls

In a significant administrative development ahead of the forthcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Village Committee elections, retired senior IAS officer PK Chakraborty, who was serving as Secretary to Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, has been appointed as the State Election Commissioner of Tripura. The appointment has come into effect immediately following the issuance of a government notification. He has replaced Manoj Kumar who was serving in this position for the last Eaight Months. Retired IAS officer and former Tripura Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar was appointed as the State Election Commissioner (SEC) of Tripura on November 16, 2025.
Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakravarty (PK Chakraborty), an experienced administrator who held several key portfolios in the state government, will now head the State Election Commission at a time when preparations are expected to begin for the politically significant TTAADC Village Committee elections.
Following his appointment, the Tripura Government has redistributed his departmental responsibilities. Kiran Gitte, IAS, has been entrusted with the charge of Secretary to the Chief Minister and has also been given charge of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department. The Education (Youth Affairs & Sports) Department has been assigned to Tapas Ray, IAS, while the General Administration (Confidential & Cabinet) Department continues under the charge of Chief Secretary JK Sinha.
PK Chakraborty's appointment assumes added significance as the State Election Commission will be responsible for conducting the upcoming TTAADC Village Committee elections, one of the most closely watched electoral exercises in the state. As State Election Commissioner, he will oversee the entire election process, including scheduling, preparation of electoral rolls, enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, and ensuring that the elections are conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner.
The administrative reshuffle is expected to ensure continuity in governance while strengthening the institutional framework for the smooth conduct of the forthcoming local body elections in the TTAADC areas.
