In a landmark initiative to promote the indigenous language and literary heritage of Tripura, the state is set to host its first-ever Kokborok Book Fair from July 21 to 23 at the Dasarath Deb Memorial Auditorium in Agartala.
The three-day literary festival is expected to bring together writers, poets, publishers, researchers, students, and literature enthusiasts from across the state to celebrate the richness and growing body of Kokborok literature.
The Governor of Tripura will formally inaugurate the book fair, marking a significant milestone in the state's efforts to preserve and promote its indigenous language and culture.
A major highlight of the event will be the release of several new Kokborok books, showcasing fresh literary works spanning poetry, fiction, research, children's literature, and other genres. The book releases are expected to enrich the existing collection of Kokborok publications and encourage emerging writers.
The fair will also feature daily Kokborok poetry recitation sessions, providing a platform for established and young poets to present their works before readers and literary enthusiasts.
On the second day, a seminar on Kokborok literature will be organized, where scholars, authors, and language experts will discuss the evolution, challenges, opportunities, and future prospects of Kokborok literature. The seminar is expected to focus on strengthening literary development, promoting reading habits, and preserving the linguistic heritage of the indigenous communities.
The book fair will remain open every day from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, allowing visitors to browse and purchase Kokborok books, interact with authors, and participate in various literary activities.
Organizers believe the inaugural Kokborok Book Fair will become an important annual cultural event, fostering greater appreciation for the state's indigenous language while encouraging reading, creative writing, and academic engagement among younger generations.
The event is expected to significantly contribute to the promotion of Kokborok literature and reaffirm Tripura's commitment to preserving its rich linguistic and cultural traditions.
