The self-enumeration phase of the first stage of Census 2027 commenced across Tripura on Friday, marking the beginning of India's first fully digital census exercise in the state. Residents can now voluntarily submit their household and family details online through the official Self-Enumeration (SE) portal ( se.census.gov.in) from July 17 to July 31, ahead of the door-to-door Houselisting and Housing Census scheduled from August 1 to August 30.
The self-enumeration facility enables citizens to complete the census process conveniently from their homes by visiting the official portal, logging in with their mobile number through OTP verification, selecting their state and local details, marking the location of their house on a digital map, and entering information related to their house and family. After successful submission, applicants receive a unique Self-Enumeration (SE) ID, which should be preserved and shared with the census enumerator during the subsequent field visit for verification.
According to the Census authorities, the online self-enumeration process is designed to save time, improve data accuracy and accelerate data processing while ensuring that all information provided by citizens remains confidential and secure. Officials have clarified that self-enumeration is an optional facility, and households that do not complete the online process will still be covered through the regular house-to-house enumeration conducted by trained census officials.
The first phase of Census 2027 focuses on Houselisting and Housing Census, while the second phase, involving Population Enumeration, is scheduled to be conducted in February 2027. The exercise is expected to play a crucial role in planning government policies, welfare programmes, infrastructure development and resource allocation based on updated demographic and housing data.
The Tripura Census Director Ratan Biswas, IAS has appealed to residents across Tripura to make use of the digital self-enumeration facility and actively participate in the national census exercise, describing it as an important civic responsibility that will contribute to evidence-based planning and the state's future development.
